An Award Winning Family History prepared by a genealogist

Is this our goal?

To the left is an example of what an "Award Winning " Family History looks like.  This example was taken from the 2015 NGS Quarterly with permission.  It can be characterized as having sources well cited and portraying the vital statistics and events of the family's history.  Although this is the history of a Moore family of African descent, I am not related to the family.

I am showing this example to demonstrate the continuum of any recorded expression of family history as has been highlighted in the first five sections to the written history as expressed by a trained Genealogist.  You may have noticed that the earlier examples featured in Vignettes 1 through 5, tend to be more visual in nature.  Additionally, facts are just stated without any explanation of where they came from.

Admittedly, the endpoint of many family histories is geared towards lineage societies or identifying the first ancestor brought to this continent. As hobbyists, we can be mindful of what will be helpful to the researchers who follow us, and try to do more organization, and citation of the information we find during our research of our family history.
